Park University Peace Teach-In: Sept.21 and 22
To commemorate the International Day of Peace on Monday, Sept. 21, students in 17 Park University classes across the country will be discussing the weighty questions, “What is Peace?,” and “Is Peace Possible?” These conversations will occur on Monday or Tuesday in classes from diverse disciplines such as communications, interior design, accounting, geography, and social work.
The Teach In is being organized by the office of the Faculty Coordinator for Internationalization and the Center for Global Peace Journalism at Park University.
Why a Teach In? I figured it was a good way to start conversations about the nature and importance of peace—conversations that I believe should be ongoing regardless of discipline.
Park’s Teach In will coincide with the International Day of Peace, which is celebrated wo
rldwide each Sept. 21. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day “devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.”
After the event, I will collect quotes and observations from students about peace. These comments will be included in an article posted on this blog about the “Teach In.” Stay tuned.
